Ancient Plates are a special class of rare items, based on the 17 Arceus Plates from the main series of video games. On GPX+, their sole function is allowing the user to embark on the Death of the World exploration. This exploration rewards the user an Arceus Egg of the type corresponding to the plate that was used to embark on the exploration. A user can only use a specific Ancient Plate to embark on the Death of the World exploration one time. If the user has more than one Plate available, they are used in the chronological order they were obtained in.
Ancient Plates are obtained by collecting 5 Ancient Shards. These Shards are primarily obtained in two ways:
- through hatching a Shiny Pokémon of corresponding type (their primary type, or, if their primary type is Normal, then their secondary type), although this can only be done once per day, from reset to reset, and
- placing 1st in the type-respective Poké Hunt, after obtaining all five Cosplay Giftboxes.
After obtaining five of the same-type Shard, they may be forged into an Ancient Plate from the user's inventory.
The Blank Plate does not exist on GPX+, so pure Normal-type Pokémon don't award Shards. After all 17 Ancient Plates have been used, each subsequent completion of Death of the World will give the user an egg for a Normal-type Arceus.

Trivia[]
- Users who hatched a shiny Buneary, Furfrou, and/or Honedge during the March 2015 Site-Wide Shiny Hunt received a random Ancient Plate.
- An exploit in the Exploration Deep Desires allows a user to potentially earn a second Ancient Shard from a shiny Pokémon. During the Exploration, the user is required to obtain a Heracross, an Eevee, and a Scraggy. These three Pokémon are later reverted back to eggs and must be re-hatched. By hatching a shiny Heracross or Shiny Scraggy during the Exploration, the user can obtain either an Insect Shard or Dread Shard, respectively, and use them to progress. After the Pokémon are turned back into eggs and re-hatched, they will provide the same Ancient Shard as the first time they hatched, presuming the user does not already have 5 of that Shard and has not already obtained another shard that day.
